How I Make Use of Essential Oils.
written on Thursday, November 4, 2010 @ 10:23 PM ✈

I love essential oils, and its been a part of my life these days, despite all the stress around me.

What are essential oils?
Essential oils are concentrated aromatic plant extracts collected through a process of steam distillation. Aromatherapists also use essences extracted by expression of fruit peel of citris and absolutes obtained by enfleurage and solvent extractiom. (i.e. Rose and jasmine absolutes are used in the aromatherapy). Orange-flower water and lavender water are fragrants produced during oil distillation.

Common methods of using oils include inhalation, vaporization, massage, bathing, and compresses. Essential oils (except in rare exceptions like tea tree oil) are not to be applied to the skin in an undiluted form.

Some of the methods i use are as follows:
- Vaporization: Four to five drops of a single oil or combination of oils are sufficient. Too ascent a room place the drops in a vaporizer or in a small container of water set on a radiator. You can also place a drop or two onto a light bulb. For individual therapy you can place a drop or two of oil onto a tissue or pillowcase. For example, i personally drop a few drops of Victoria Rose on wet towel, and slowly inhale when i feel tired. It revives, and makes you feel happy just like when you use endorphene.

- Baths: For relaxation, pleasure, stress relief, or soothing achy muscles, a soak in bath water that has been treated with a few drops of essential oils is a delight. Since i dont have a long bath, i just put a few drops into the water tank, and take a cold bath or wash my face with it.

- Personal Care: Treat yourself by adding romatic oils to your skin lotions, face creams, and mild shampoos. I added orange flavour into my face spray, so it smells nice, and it mildly refreshes and keeps you awake.

What makes me Beautiful
written on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 @ 4:20 AM ✈

I love having my photo taken. If i have warning then I’m okay, but if you spring it on me I end up looking like some noob with large forehead and messy hair. Alot of people feel that spontaneous photos don't look good, sometimes i do feel that too. What’s interesting though is that most people seem to come up better when it’s a spontaneous photo than when they’re posed. Catching someone in a moment just makes them seem more natural and it’s closer to the memory we want to keep.

You often hear people say that it’s what’s on the inside that makes someone beautiful. It’s said so often that it’s become a cliché, but that doesn’t mean it’s not true. But oh well, people (mostly guys) their first instinct is to look at that, if they’re presentable, attractive. But I’m more interested in their personality and who they are. I think someone can be very attractive but not beautiful. Thats why i mix with everyone, no matter he/she is ugly or pretty.

Despite the evolution of facebook, friendster and etc, commenting on other people's photo seem to get much simpler, easier. Some would compliment Sexy, Cute. Certainly someone can be sexy and it can be a compliment, but I’m not a fan of how it’s overused; sexy, sexed up, I find that’s more about lust and desire than anything empowering. Praising cute does not seemed appropriate either. I looked up on dictionary, and cute actually means ugly but adorable. What a contradicting sentence! How can you be ugly and adorable at the same time??

I guess I’ve always thought of beauty as what we represent as a whole, while someone’s attractiveness (or sexiness) is more related to their appearance. Some photos seemed to capture that beauty; more than just the appearance, it caught the light in their eyes, a smile, a laugh… it transcended the rest.

I know i'm fugly, but its natural :)

And sadly, some people view photos in different perspective. Body figures, face. The common ones.

What all this makes me wonder, though, is how do we define beauty today? Has it changed, the definition evolved? I think the way beauty and sexy are used interchangeably now suggests that it has.

But that’s part of the culture we live in now. Appearances matter more than ever and our definition of beauty is skin deep. As long as we’re presentable and look a certain way, then someone will like us enough that we’ll feel good about ourselves…

I wonder what you think. How do you define beauty and looks? What makes you beautiful? I’d be interested to find out ;)
